Treatment Etiquette and Hygiene

The therapist will greet the client as he enters the  premises and make them feel welcome.  prior to the client going into the treatment room, the client should wash their hands as a minimum, or if necessary take a shower before the commencement of treatment.  Hygine is of paramount importance during the treatment, the therapist  will frequently wash hands for treating differnt parts of the body.

Prior to the massage the client may be offered some herbal tea or filtered water to drink while going through the consultation form.  The consultation form looks at the client’s medical history to determine if there are any contraindications that may impact the type of treatment offered or if treatment can be carried out at all.

After the client’s massage treatment, has been agreed the client will undress and place his belongings in a box provided.  The client is generally naked underneath a towel or sheet and the therapist only uncovers the part of the body they are working on.  If you are uncomfortable at being naked, you can keep your underwear on or disposal briefs are available for the client for one time use.

The massage usually starts by lying face down with your head in a u-shaped face cradle or a round hole in the massage table.  The therapist generally starts by working on your back, using various massage techniques that include effleurage, petrissage, kneading, friction, stretching, and tapping.  When the therapist has finished with the back and arms, work will commence on each leg and the feet.  When done with the back side, the therapist will either hold a towel up for the client to turn over or will leave the room momentarily.  The therapist then massages the front of each leg, both arms, briefly the tummy and chest and generally finishes with your neck, shoulders and face.

The therapist will accommodate specific requests to spend more time on a certain area. The therapist will ask you during the massage, if the pressure is too light or too firm, and adjust accordingly.

The treatment will continue for the period of time agreed, prior to the start of the appointment.  After the treatment has finished the client will be offered a shower to wash off any excess oil that may be present.

For other traetments the Therapist may undertake different preperations for the treatment, such as offering  lose pyjamas to wear for cuddling therapy, or washing the feet for reflexology.
